Info-Dumping
Info-dumping describes a communication style where someone shares a deep, enthusiastic dive into a topic they care about, often with a lot of detail and momentum. It’s especially common among Autistic and ADHD people and is closely connected to special interests and monotropic attention and can be a natural way that neurodivergent people connect.
Info-dumping is usually driven by excitement, connection, and a wish to share something meaningful. At times, though, it can create a mismatch in conversation if the level of detail or pacing doesn’t line up with the other person’s capacity or interest in that moment.
Like many neurodivergent communication styles, info-dumping isn’t a problem on its own. It becomes tricky when there’s a mismatch in interest, energy, or timing. When there’s space for checking in, shared curiosity, or gentle cues about capacity, info-dumping can shift into a more mutual exchange rather than something to feel embarrassed about.
For many people, info-dumping also serves a regulating function. Speaking or sharing in depth can help organize thoughts, release built-up energy, and feel more grounded through focused connection.
