The Body-Based Factors Workbook (Clinical License)

Hormones, sensory input, sleep, somatic considerations, and nutrition

Emotional regulation begins in the body. Energy, hormones, sleep, and sensory processing all play essential roles in how clients experience and express emotion. This workbook offers a framework for exploring these physiological layers of emotional life through a neurodivergent-informed lens.

Created for clinicians, coaches, and helping professionals, The Body-Based Factors Workbook integrates research, reflection tools, and practical strategies that bridge insight and action. It invites both practitioners and clients to understand emotional regulation not as a purely cognitive process, but as one deeply rooted in the nervous system and the body’s patterns of care, depletion, and restoration.

Inside the Workbook

Sensory Processing and Overload
Learn how sensory input shapes emotion, attention, and energy. Use frameworks and prompts to help clients identify sensory triggers and build strategies for restoring balance.

Hormones and Neurotransmitters
Gain an accessible overview of how body chemistry influences mood, motivation, and stress response — including the roles of dopamine, serotonin, cortisol, and endorphins.

Sleep and Regulation
Explore how disrupted sleep and circadian rhythms affect executive functioning and emotional resilience. Includes reflection tools to support clients in establishing more restorative patterns.

Nutrition and the Nervous System
Understand nourishment through a neurodivergent lens — how eating patterns, hydration, and minerals influence energy and self-regulation, and how to address change without moralizing food choices.

Movement and Mood
Examine the neuroscience of movement and its role in emotional regulation. Includes guidance for integrating gentle, sensory-informed movement practices into daily life.

Each section includes fillable worksheets, psychoeducation summaries, and practical applications that support client reflection and goal setting. Designed to meet clients where they are, the workbook helps professionals integrate body-based insights into therapy or coaching without pathologizing difference — centering compassion, accessibility, and sustainability.
